1st March 2010( Monday)
Cough has disappeared and there is still a little phlegm.Hopefully by tomorrow he would be ready for
chemotherapy. Today he has todo the epensive PETSCAN AT 12 PM
27th Feb 2010 ( Saturday)going to be a busy busy weekend. LG had cough and so the air-con was off and thus I was not able to sleep from 330 am . Got up after 430 am and busy myself with marking and getting stuff ready for monday. Sent Valerie to AJC at 8 am, went to Ghim Moh Market, collect Aloe Vera from Phuay Hua's house and reached home 930 am. Clean the 2 toilets then took a bus down to Focal to pay up for Susan for the HK trip. Took a train to Vivo city to buy a 4 tier rack for plants ( end up its only suitable for shoes), bought lunch and then took a taxi home as the rack was really heavy.
LG complained of palpitations-- heartbeat of 150 in the morning and 146 from afternoon to night--- He had stopped taking the blood thinner after the infusion of blood platelets and the heart doctor has sort of said that the chemo may have weakened his heart. More prayers for timely medical advice!
After lunch I decided to bake the cookies that Maggie taught me but it did not turn up wel( see the end result)l. Rested for 30 mins and then off to Bukit Timah with LB although both my feet were a little injured. However, I do enjoy the fellowship and walk, not to mention the witty exchange. I was definitely under NO ILLUSION that LB will carry me if the injury got worse, though I do know the LORD will carry me all the days of my life!Cough has disappeared and there is still a little phlegm.Hopefully by tomorrow he would be ready for

LG's sister Lim Chun called and informed him of a place in KuMing which is renowned for treating cancer patients.I think it is important that we should be guided by wisdom when giving advice to cancer patients. What works for one may not for another? Are folks prepared to go to great lengths and cost to show their care and concern or are they recommending some hearsay from a third party or just paying lipservice?
Having said that I think everyone who wants to help do it out of good intention but the mental agony of making a decision still rests on the individual? The doubts, the concern over cost and the efficacy of such treatment may compromise their confidence in the current treatment. However, as in all decisions, big or small, we shall pray for guidance and direction.
24th Feb 2010 ( Wednesday)
Outside the Listing room, tempers flared as many had to wait a long time as there was only ONE staff working. Perhaps those on CSC need not wait as the financial counselling is not really needed. We asked the personnel if anyone comes to them and confess they cannot afford to pay for the impending hospitalisation stay. What happens?
The answer: We will still treat them?????
20th Feb 2010
After sending Valerie to school for dance, I visited AMK floral and landscape nursery and became a VIP member and by 2 pm my garden has expanded. Perhaps I will have a garden party soon once I can buy a swing and a marble garden table and chairs!
19th Feb 2010
Woke up at 3 30 am and sort of just need to take a peek at my beauties.
18th Feb 2010
Went to Brenda's house and she gave us a lot of plants. I was so inspired that I immediately went to the nursery at Flora to buy a stand to hold them all. It is a well-known fact that I neither have green fingers nor patience for gardening but the vision of these beauties has ignited a flame in me. She thinks that plants will be good for LG and LK.
14th Feb 2010
Visited Father's columbarium---Gone from our lives one so dear, but in our hearts forever near--- LY bought a 6-piece orchestra and we were there in the nick of time before they closed. Took quite a few pictures at 3rd uncle's house-- will wait for Radiana to upload them on the facebook before I can put it up.13th Feb 2010 ( CNY eve)
Everybody loves somebody BUT WE ALL LOVE SHANDY! Look what she got for me from HK. All the footwear I need for the coming year. I think all my 3 sisters have been really supportive to me. ASK AND IT SHALL BE GIVEN --this does not apply here for I was given even without asking..... God has somehow look to all that I need. I must really remind myself that I am a woman who is going to laugh at the days ahead--- something I have forgotten of late.
This year's reunion dinner at LG's side was rather quiet as two extended units are away on holiday and one had to go for another reunion dinner. The astounding news is:Charleston ( one year younger than Wilson) has made plans to apply for a HDB flat and intended to get married in 2 years time. I protested that it was too soon and more time is needed for me to save for the wedding gift!

11th Feb 2010 ( Thursday)
Had a great time bonding with Mdm Jaya but we were all very glad to be back to civilization. Compared to the Sec 3 Batam campers ours did seem like a "holiday confinement camp". We were all exhausted by the sea breeze and constrant droning of planes that arrived at Changi like the regularity of the clock! Oh Yes I learned a new word --- malinger----- to pretend to be ill so as to escape duty or work.
9th Feb 2010 ( Tuesday)Sec 2 Camp at MOE Changi Coast Adventure Centre
We are indeed fortunate to come to this "holiday camp" compared to the Sec 1 who had to camp in school and the Sec 3 who has to go to Batam. For the first time I have to sleep on a sponge bed where I can feel every single wire mesh below! This is a character development camp and there were indeed quite a few characters who need more nurturing. I was utterly embarraseed in the evening, I stained myself 4 times--seems like an avalanche.
7th Feb 2010 ( Sunday)
Discharged at 2 pm----with instructions to report for blood test on 12th Feb 2010
slight tummy ache at 3 30 pm-- blamed it on the beetroot, zuchini, baby bittergourd and apple juice--- well , it didn't happen previously so perhaps its best not to try so hard otherwise .....
6th Feb 2010 ( Saturday)
Arrived at SGH after 2 pm. LG's left arm was swollen( apparently the infusion of the various drips could not go through the blood stream!) and so they had to transfer all the drips and start a new site on the right arm. Our Bollywood friends visited again in the morning and Fiona came to visit the uncle in the afternoon---Her uncle complimented me for being very kind but I think surely Fiona is the kindest of us all. Few young people would have the patience and grace to take the trouble to come so often.
Mr Low's parents were having a difficult time with their son who seemed to have some problem with the output of fluids as well as the CVC that had been inserted and needed cleaning. He was throwing a tantrum. Being ill, it is of course acceptable for a 26 year old man to behave in such a ludicrous manner.
The patient directly opposite LG is critcally ill, he's rather yellow and very bloated up. There were a lot of relatives arriving and it was really a rather awkward time for all of us in the ward. Some reacted by drawing the curtains while others just have to look elsewhere or pretend to watch TV.
Had a chat with Lionel and parents as well as Wee Jen. Their room was rather quiet as the other two patients have been discharged. Both are brave young men deserving of a better life. May God have mercy on them and grant them healing.Went off at 5 pm to have steam boat dinner with line dance buddies and fruits at Maggie's house. Uprooted a pretty plant from her compound.Have I become a plant thief???
5th Feb 2010 (Friday)
After X-xountry race, I was undecided as to whether to buy fruits to jucie some heavenly drink for LG and all my friends but decided I had no time. Fiona visited her uncle Mr Rasiah and he was in good spirit. He ate half the kaya pancake I gave him, a slice of dragon fruit and even the two set of sandwiches Fiona bought along. All in the ward agreed that he looked more energetic. He also ate up most of his dinner. I am not able to put up a snapshot of Fiona as being a very private person, she is afraid of paparazzi. Mr Rasiah likes CNA as he kept on requesting for the channel. There is some fascination about news that most men seem to be attracted to it like a magnet. Here is a photo of the next group of Bollywood celebrities that visited our ward. We are indeed very honoured! They ALL gave me permission to put up their PHOTO as they have a big fan base in Australia.
4th Feb 2010 ( Thursday)After reporting dutifully to SGH at 3 15 pm, I decided to take a bus to Chinatown to get the cloth for the marketing noticeboard and along the way got beancurd with sesame paste for all our friends in SGH. Had a chat with Mr Rasiah( Singam's brother- who is an Anglican) after dinner. He seemed to be in pain ( on morphine 4x a day) and so I asked if he wanted me to pray for him which he acceded. I shared with him how the Lord has walked with us in our journey. He was quite comforted by the prayer and even ate some of dessert that I bought for him( which he was not keen initially). Later he remarked that strangely the pain seemed to have gone or was more bearable.I was most amazed and told him that he has to call on the Lord's name as often as he can so that he would not be so anxious. Subsequently he fell into a slumber. I found out from Mr Singam that he would be going for an operation to remove his tumour next week. Before I left for home, I got him another blanket as I think he will feel cold at night. Please pray for him to be strong and positive and of course for a favouarble outcome from the sugery.
3rd Feb 2010 ( Wednesday)It is again a long day of lessons and meetings. I could only reach SGH at 515 pm. People are generally very amused when they see me marking beside the bed. I believe marking is usually done behind closed doors but time management is very important if we are to play our multiple roles well.
Mr Singam and his sister visited this morning and both bought fruits for Lim Gee as well.-- very nice to have friends everywhere we go. In fact this admission sees a reunion of all our friends like Kah Tiong( last cycle) and Wee Zen( waiting for blood count to stabilize before the long-awaited discharge). Even Lionel and Mr Ong( chatted with him while he was on the way down for x-ray) were also there.
Chemo started at 3 pm in the afternoon for LG and everything seems to go well. All the window openers were replaced with those that can be locked. This is perhaps a green idea to prevent patients from opening windows when they felt too cold or the lever does not give the patients a good grip when they grab at it for one reason or other.
Collected aloe vera water from Phuay Hua in the eveving.
2nd Feb 2010 ( Tuesday)
Blood test was done in the morning and admission took place in the afternoon. There were really a lot sick peopal waiting for admission and a lot of angry people who waited 3 hours or more. No wonder there are posters put up everywhere asking for RESPECT/PATIENCE.
Coincidentally the patient next to us is Mr Singam's brother!Such a nice and soft-spoken gentleman just like Mr Singam. As a teacher for 30 years, I take pride in being a good judge of mankind, he is so benevolent I think he could hardly bring himself to hurt even a fly.
As the white blood cells were still a little low, chemo will start tomorrow. Wee Jen( in the next room) IS STill in hospital and he told me he was feeling very miserable as his stay is about ONE MONTH OR MORE! Undesrtandably being sleep-deprived, as well as feeling the side-effects of chemo, he felt a little grouchy but all-in-all I think he is holding out quite well. I told him that I will pray that he will be able to go home soon for the CNY.
